Laid Back 31DC - Day 8 - Duo Chrome, Flakie, or Holo

Day 8 of the Laid Back challenge: duo chrome, flakie, or holo

Naturally, my first thought when I saw this challenge day was HOLO YES. But I realized that I have posting/wearing a lot of holo polishes lately so I decided to switch it up. I decided on doing a duo chrome stamping with one of the China Glaze Bohemian Luster Chrome collection polishes called Unpredictable. It is a green/gold/blue duo chrome. I stamped it over black using BM-319.

I tried hard to get a good picture but duo chromes are hard to photograph so hopefully these come across as good as it actually looked.

Laid Back 31DC - Day 7 - Ombre or Skittle

Today's day 7 of the Laid Back 31DC and the theme is: ombre or skittle.

I decided to do an ombre because I have always wanted to and I thought this would be the perfect time. I used purple as my ombre color!

Colors from Thumb to Pinky:
Sinful Colors - Candy Coated
Wet n Wild - On a Trip
Finger Paints - Grape Gumball
Hottopic - (No Name) Dark Purple Glitter
China Glaze - VIII
*The Sinful Colors polish is one from the new Sugar Rush collection and it is gorgeous! I highly recommend this collection (especially if you are starting to fall in love with pastels like I am!!).

No Flash indoor^

I love this ombre look!!!!! I will definitely be doing more ombres in different colors :)

Color Club - Over the Moon

Hey everyone, TGIF!

Today I have another one of the Color Club Halo Hues 2013 to show you. This one is Over the Moon and it's a blue holographic polish. It is just as holographic as the others and just as amazing! Two easy coats and it was good to go! I love how the color is much more vibrant than the first Halo Hue blue called Blue Heaven.

Now I only have 2 more from the collection to swatch and I'll make a complete post.

(Random note)
You know when you've been practicing something for awhile and you suddenly have that moment of "wow I am actually getting good at this"? I had that moment the other night while I was painting my nails! Usually when I apply polish, I end up making a cuticle mess, even if I clean up with an orange stick as I go. I have been trying so hard to get that perfect 3-stroke application. I actually was able to do it! It did not need any clean up whatsoever! I am sharing this moment because it made me realize that even if you think you will never be able to do something, you can eventually do it if you try hard enough. WOO!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 6 - Favorite Color Family

Today is the 6th day of the laid back challenge and the theme is my "favorite color family". I decided to do a water marble for this one!! I used my favorite shades of blue to create it.

The colors I used were Orly - Snowcone, Essense - Just Rock It, and China Glaze - For Audrey. I love rich, dark blues like Just Rock It but I especially love the green/teal toned blues like For Audrey. I also used Snowcone because I love the periwinkle purple-y blue color.

Here's the water marble:

I LOVED how these three shades of blue looked together. It reminded of the ocean on a tropical island.

I also decided to do a needle drag with the same colors!

I used a white base coat so that the colors would stand out better. I like how the white peaks through.

Hope you liked them!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 5 - Purple

Today is Day 5 of the Laid Back challenge and the theme is PURPLE.

Purple is one of my favorite polish colors so I am excited to show you this color. I chose to use one of the new Color Club Halo Hues 2013 called Eternal Beauty which is a gorgeous holographic. Two easy coats and it was done!

And then I decided to add black dots and then smaller dots inside so it looks like circles.

Valentine's Day Art

Happy Valentine's Day!
... and to those who don't care to celebrate... Happy Thursday!

I don't usually celebrate Valentine's Day but I decided to do a related manicure anyways. I was inspired by a simple heart themed design that Robin Moses recently posted on YouTube - VIDEO HERE.
I thought the pink and teal color combination was really cute and I loved the little hearts she did!

So here's my version:
I used Essie - Mint Candy Apple for the teal and Color Club - In Bloom for the pink. The white is Sally Hansen - White On. The hearts were free-handed with a dotting tool, the text stamp is BM-311, and the kiss is from Konad-M84. The Color Club was pretty good for stamping!

I know the big heart on the index is a little.. interesting.. but the rest looks pretty good!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 4 - Pink

Today I have Day 4 of the Laid Back challenge: PINK.

Pink is not a color I go to very often but I really loved the color I chose for this manicure. It is an untried that I got in a gift package last year and I never thought to use it. The color is called Sugar Sheer by Color Club from their All About Color collection from a store called Ross. I don't have any Ross stores where I live but I am so jealous of those who do! Color Club polishes are great and I would love to be able to buy those cheap packs they sell. Anyways, they did not have any labels but I made my own! This pink is very light and pastel-like. I would describe it as "light pink chalk". It was good with my skin tone.

This is the color on its own.

Even though I surprisingly liked the color, I wanted to add something! So, I taped off each nail with a few stripes of tape and painted Kleancolor - Metallic Fuchsia.. This failed miserably! When I tried to pull the little tape stripes off, it stuck to the nail! The tape pieces were stuck underneath the polish. At this point, I decided to go with a really simple diagonal line instead! I think the tape was too weak and broke when I tried to pull it up. I have the worst luck with tape manicures! One day.. lol

So here is the outcome! Kleancolor - Metallic Fushsia and Color Club - Sugar Sheer combination:

(most color accurate!^)

Laid Back 31DC - Day 3 - Gold

Finally, the third installment of the Laid Back 31DC! Today's theme: gold.

For this manicure, I used an untried polish!! This is Milani - Golden Goddess. To be completely honest, I never used this polish because I thought it was going to be very thin and bad looking on my skin tone. Boy was I wrong!! This polish was amazing to apply!! These pictures (except the last one) were taken right after I polished them.. NO CLEAN UP! And only two easy coats. I am so impressed! The color was surprisingly really pretty. I added some little gold glitters to the tips using a glitter called Gold by Milani. I loved how simple and elegant this came out!

(in sunlight^^)

Until next time,

Color Club - Kismet

Hi readers!

Today I have another swatch of the one of the new Colo Club Halo Hues 2013!!

This one is called Kismet and it is a light lime green color. It is not very pigmented but it has that slight lime color to it. It is a beautiful holographic nevertheless. This was great in two coats and would be great for stamping!

As you may see, this is one of the lighter shades in this 2013 collection. The holo is so strong though!

Liebster Award!

So on the second of February, I received a comment on one of my posts by a blogger named Cazzy Durcan from Specialgirlnails saying that she nominated me for a Liebster Award!

This award is given to bloggers with under 200 followers and according to her post, it helps to spread awareness to other blogs and makes them feel good. I definitely felt good when I got nominated! I only have 7 followers but that's already more than I thought I would have (0) so I am extremely proud of my blog. I love being able to show my nails, whether they're elaborate designs or just simple swatches. I am glad to see that others like them as well.

1)Post 11 facts about yourself
2) Answer 11 questions asked by the person who nominated you
3) Ask 11 questions to the people you are nominating
4) Find 11 blogs with less than 200 followers, and nominate them!

About Myself:
1.) I am a food server (waitress) and even though one would think my nails would be ruined, they almost never chip!
2.) I have two dogs, a bulldog and a pug.
3.) I go to college full time and plan on getting my Bachelors in Biological Sciences.
4.) I am also seriously considering going to nail school.
5.) I am obsessed with the Foo Fighters and I love 90's music.
6.) Pizza is my favorite food.. including pizza rolls.
7.) When I get older I plan on adopting a mini dachshund.
8.) Fall is my favorite season.
9.) I love watching YouTube vlogs. (and other videos)
10.) When I was younger I was a huge tomboy. Now here I am with a nail blog! haha
11.) I love frozen yogurt self-serve places!!!!

Now here are the questions asked by Cazzy!!

1) What is your favourite polish? Brand, or shade
My favorite polish currently is Mermaid Dreams by Deborah Lippmann.

2) If you created a polish, what would it be like?
This is hard to answer because there are already so many polishes out that I would have wanted to create! Maybe a polish that flashes every color of the rainbow, like a super multichrome, that doesn't need a base color (like black)!

3) What's the most difficult nail art technique you have tried?
STRIPING TAPE. It looks so easy but I think my nails are really rounded and it never comes out crisp? I'm still practicing though.

4) What's your biggest lemming (the polish you most want but don't have)?
Possibly China Glaze DV8. I have HITS Hera, which is a holographic teal.. but it's not as linear and beautiful like DV8.

5) What do you prefer to post/read about? Swatches, or nail art?
I love reading both! If I had to choose, swatches. Only because I usually don't have time to do nail art, unless it's stamping.

6) What is your best polish bargain?
Getting my Color Club Halo Hues at the beauty supply store I go to. They were only 4.95 each! (or 3.95?  I can't remember) but WOW I was shocked!! They have amazing deals on any brand!

7) How important is neat polish/cuticle cleanup to you?
To be honest, I NEVER clean my cuticles.. I just take a shower the next day/wash my hands a lot and the extra polish falls off. Then I take pictures! I only clean up if I do nail art such as stamping or freehand/watermarble. I don't mind looking at people's picture with unclean cuticles because I think what matters most is the color/art, etc.

8) What are you wearing on your nails right now?
Color Club - Eternal Beauty.

9) What is you favourite nail shape?
Squoval (is that how it's spelled?)

10) What do you think the next polish trend will be?
Holographic! Even though it has been out for quit awhile.. But I think that many brands are going to do a version this year. So far, it seems that textured nails are huge right now, also.

11) If you were in complete isolation, like on a desert island, would you still paint your nails?
Of course. I paint my nails for my own personal pleasure! I love showing others too (hence the blog) but I think painting my nails is really relaxing and fun.

Here are the 11 blogs I nominate!

Zachy's Nail Buzz

GypsyV talks Beauty

Nail Therapy

Chameleon Stampede

Rainy Day Nails

10 Fickle Fingers

Polished at Heart

Nail Polish Lane

All the pretty things

Elfleidy's Stuff

My 11 Questions to you:

1.) What made you start a blog?
2.) What do you like to do when you aren't polishing?
3.) What is your favorite nail polish? ( or color if you can't decide)
4.) How do you get inspired when you do your nails?
5.) Do you do nail art or swatches?
6.) How often do you do your nails?
7.) What are a few of your favorite blogs to read? (nail related or not?)
8.) How many polishes do you own?
9.) Are you looking forward to any upcoming collections?
10.) Where do you keep your polishes?
11.) What is your favorite nail design/technique?

Laid Back 31DC - Day 2 - Silver

Hello readers,

Today is day 2 of the Laid Back 31 Day Challenge and the theme is SILVER!

I decided to do a simple manicure of just one color because I love how this chrome silver looks on its own. This is Sally Hansen - Pure Chrome. It is an older polish so it does have a very strong smell but I am not sensitive to smells, thankfully. This polish is amazing for stamping and doesn't apply as streaky as other chromes do. I used two coats for the pictures below.

There are definitely some streaks visible in these pictures BUT not so much in real life! I apologize for showing a polish that isn't easily available but I really wanted to wear this polish because I usually only use it for stamping!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 1 - Black&White

Hello everyone!

Today is Day 1 of the Laid-Back 31 Day Challenge!!

The theme is black and white and I decided to do a cool pattern that I saw on youtube by Meliney. Here is a link: CLICK!
I've seen this design elsewhere but her video was the first time I saw it and became inspired to try it. I think it has a really trippy effect.

I used Rimmel London - Black Satin and Sally Hansen - White On. This was created by using a dotting tool.

This came out a little messier than I hoped but it looked good from far away!! haha

Check out the other participates below!
