Laid Back 31DC - Day 15 - Water Color

Hello!

Today is day 15 of the 31 DC and the design is WATER COLOR.

To be honest, I had never heard of this technique until a few weeks ago. I was a little confused on how to do it so I looked up a few blogs and videos and came up with a way.

How I did this was to drop a little blob of polish onto a paper plate, get an art brush and dip it in water, and then mix the water into the polish to make it a thin consistency. When I applied it to my nail (which I had mattified), it came out water color-y! I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it but it worked for me. For this particular design, I just did random lines of different colors.

Colors used (on white matte base): China Glaze - Flip Flop Fantasy (my all-time favorite neon pink!!!), Finger Paints - Blue Raspberry Taffy, Finger Paints - Iconic Orange, Sation - Miss Emo Shun All

Then... I added some stamping! The lines are from BM316 and the flower is SH13 - with black Konad polish.

I'm in love with these!! The colors, the stamping.. WOO! I haven't been happy about my nails for awhile so it's refreshing to finally be satisfied with them!

*edit* so apparently you are supposed to use acetone to get the water color effect.. oops

Zoya - Nyx

Hello!

Today I finally have a post of one of Zoya's new PixieDust textured polishes called Nyx!!!

This PixieDust formula is awesome!! I found it to be a lot more sparkly than other "sandy" textured polishes and it applied super easy. The texture of the wet polish was pretty cool - it's really gritty!

Nyx is blue/grey color -- I ended up using 3 coats but I think I could have been fine with 2.

It's amazing how much sparkle these polishes have.. I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself! Like I said with the OPI Liquid Sand I wore, I can't believe I actually like these textured polishes. They're as not gritty as you would think. As you wear the polish, the texture gets less bumpy.

Yeah.. I can't wait for the Summer PixieDust collection!! I might be getting all of them..

Laid Back 31DC - Day 14 - Stamping

Hello!

I know this post is a little later than usual but I didn't have time to do a fresh manicure (school/work is crazy!) for day 15 of the 31DC so I am posting an older one that I did! The theme for today is STAMPING.

I LOVE stamping.. actually I have a few more plates that I want to get! Anyways, this stamping was inspired by the dress in the picture. I used a holographic polish to stamp with so that it would have that color changing effect... sort of.

This had a base of black polish and the polished used to stamp was Color Club - Halo-graphic (a light pink holographic from their first Halo Hue collection). The plate was RA-103.

Also, beware.... these are little messy (I hadn't remembered to clean the cuticles all the way!) but still really awesome!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 13 - Your Cheer Yourself Up Mani

Hello (and Happy St. Patrick's Day again!)

Today I'm doing a double post since it is also day 13 of the laid back 31DC! The idea for today's challenge is "to cheer myself up" so I decided to wear one of my new polishes that I got from NerdLacquer! It's called Nebula and it is a dark vampy red/purple/burgundy holo glitter. I love wearing dark colors - even if dark color colors aren't really considered cheerful. Plus, the holographic glitters looked amazing in the light. (One of those hard to capture on camera moments..)

So this is the manicure I did to cheer myself up... !

Base coat of Essie - Wicked, a  dark burgundy polish. I'm sure Nebula does not really need a base color but I wanted to do one anyways.

Now the finished product:

Nebula is just a really beautiful glitter. I wish I could capture it on camera!

St. Patrick's Day Nail Art

Hello and Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I am so so so excited to show you all this design. I'm so proud of these nails! This was my first time using acrylic paints on my nails and they are so much easier to use than nail polish. It doesn't dry as fast, it's easier to apply, more opaque, and you can get so much dimension by mixing the colors.

Here is the nail art I came up with!! The green background color is Misa - Like It Like That (metallic/duo-chrome green) with Color Club - Untamed Luxury (a beautiful green/blue holo glitter!!!) on top! The art is all done freehand with acrylic paints.

Misa without the glitter.

 Misa with glitter - sunlight

Blurry picture that kind of shows the holo particles!

NerdLacquer - All of Time and Space

Hello,

and Happy Pi Day!! (heh)

Today I have a polish that I have been waiting months to get. NERDLACQUER! I've been wanting one of her polishes so badly, and I have been patiently waiting until she came back from her time off (since I did not want to pay the high prices) - finally it happened!!

I picked up two polishes during her restock, one of which is All of Time and Space!!

I ended up layering this polish over top of OPI - Mermaid Tears so that it would be opaque with less coats (to save my NerdLacquer polish!). The colors worked great together!

Yup, I may or may not need more.. probably hehe

Laid Back 31DC - Day 12 - Tape Manicure

Hello everyone!!

Today is day 12 of the laid back 31DC and the design theme is TAPE.

With my bad luck with tape manicures, I was dreading this day! I did two different designs but they both came out so bad. After my fails I decided to go on YouTube to look for some inspiration and I came across THIS VIDEO. It's a design by elleandish called "Lightening Bolt" and she made it look so easy that I wanted to try it! I decided to use dark green, silver, and a murky light green - in honor of upcoming St. Patrick's Day! I'm so proud of this manicure and I hope you like it as much as I do!

First I used a base coat of OPI - Stranger Tides (2 coats). Next, I taped off the design in the tutorial and used Zoya - Trixie. Finally, I used Color Club - Rule Breaker for the tip area!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 11 - Splatter

Hello,

Today is day 10 of this Laid Back 31DC and the theme is splatter. This was my first time doing a splatter technique and it was so fun! A little messy.. but still.

This is a pastel splatter for Spring which is coming very very soon (even we just had a snow storm here where I live). I was never a fan of pastels but I'm suddenly addicted..

First, I used a base color of Sinful Colors - Sugar Rush. This is a powder blue from the new Sugar Rush collection.

The colors I used for the splatter are: Sinful Colors - Candy Coated (light purple), China Glaze - Re-fresh Mint (light green), and Color Club - Yum Gum (light pink scented like bubble gum).

For the splatter, I dipped a straw with the smallest circumference I could find directly into the bottle of polish. I made sure that the bottom hole of the straw was blocked with polish and then I quickly blew into the straw over my nail. It was messy but manageable. I love the look!

Color Club Halo Hues Collection 2013 Swatches

This is the complete collection post for the 2013 Color Club Halo Hues!

It has taken me way too long to get this up but I wanted to get a few days wear out of each color before I took it off - they're too beautiful to waste!!

Each of these needed only two easy coats.

Eternal Beauty

Beyond

Kismet

Miss Bliss

Over the Moon

Cosmic Fate

Overall: These are great. The colors are much more vivid than the first Halo Hue collection that came out in 2012 and have an amazing holographic effect. They're slightly thick but easy to manage in two coats. They are great to stamp with! If you are a holo fan, you will love them.

Top Picks: Over the Moon, Eternal Beauty, Miss Bliss, Beyond.

Color Club - Miss Bliss

Hello!

Today I have the last Color Club Halo Hue for 2013 to post!!! This is called Miss Bliss. It's a nice pink holographic - probably one of my favorite of the six and I don't even like pink that much! This was two easy coats.

Complete collection post will be up!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 10 - Geometric

Hello!

This post is day 10 of the laid back challenge and "geometric" is the design theme. I decided to use squares as an inspiration.

For this look, I used a base color of Zoya - Storm. It is one of the beautiful holographic colors they released in the Ornate Holiday Collection of 2012. Two coats of WOW!

Pretty bottle shot!

And then I tape of a checkered pattern using the really helpful tutorial from Lucy's Stash and added a coat of OPI - The Thrill of Brazil. This color is originally a beautiful vivid red but it came out as a darkened red from the Storm base color.

I'm still amazed at how nice this came out considering my bad luck with tape manicures!

Laid Back 31DC - Day 9 - Saran Wrap

Hey

Today is day 9 of the laid back challenge and the theme is "saran wrap". Using saran wrap is a quick way to add a little style to a simple manicure. All you have to do is crinkle up a small piece of saran wrap and dab it on your nail.

This is how I did it: Paint a base color, then do a coat of another color polish, and dab the saran wrap right onto the wet polish. It comes out looking marbled.

I used three colors for this look. First, a base color of Zoya - Apple (two coats). A green with a ton of sparkle.

Then, I painted a thin coat of China Glaze - Re-fresh Mint (light green) and dabbed the saran wrap. I added another thin coat of polish, this time using Urban Outfitters - Bandeau (dark purple), and saran wrapped again. I think it looks pretty cool! The colors sort of remind of the Hulk.

Color Club - Beyond

Hello!
Happy March! Spring is almost here.. :)

Today I have another Color Club Halo Hue for 2013. This one is called Beyond and it is a black holographic! Many black holographics come out grey-ish when they are made but this one is still fairly black! This is two coats.

Really gorgeous!
